Reasons for refusal of Hong Kong work visa

As long as you meet the above conditions and follow the established procedures, you can successfully apply for a Hong Kong work visa. However, some Hong Kong work visa applicants will be rejected for the following 5 reasons:

  1. The application documents are incorrect:
If the Hong Kong Immigration Department discovers that the submitted information is forged or inaccurate, your visa will be refused.
  2. Ever refused entry on security grounds:
Even if the applicant has no criminal record, he may be refused a visa if he poses a risk to Hong Kong's security.
  3. Failure to demonstrate financial independence
Applicants who fail to prove that they can afford living expenses and accommodation expenses in Hong Kong through work may become a burden to the Hong Kong government.
  4. Short contract period
If you are employed by a newly established company or an enterprise with questionable business, you may face the risk of short-term contract renewal (such as 1 year) or even refusal of visa.
  5. Length of stay in Hong Kong
Although there is no explicit requirement, it is recommended to stay in Hong Kong for more than 183 days a year.

Applicants who fail to prove that they can afford living expenses and accommodation expenses through work or whose work business is unstable may become a burden to the Hong Kong government and are therefore at risk of short-term renewal or even visa rejection.

How to handle Hong Kong work visa when changing employers or resigning

If you change jobs or resign, the applicant and employer must notify the Hong Kong Immigration Department before starting a new job. Even if you lose your job, the applicant can stay at least until the expiration of the Hong Kong work visa.

Once you find a new company, you need to go through the procedures for changing your employer and reapply for a work visa with the new company. If the new job industry or nature is similar to the previous job, the application process will be easier. It is recommended to apply 3 to 4 months before the expiration of the old visa to give the Immigration Department some time to process the new Hong Kong work visa application.

If the applicant changes from being an office worker to setting up a company, the work visa must be changed to an investment work visa.
